Responding to the Climate Emergency is the most urgent challenge that anyone has ever faced

And as leaders in public office, that’s a responsibility that lies far more heavily on us than on most people. We are now seeing many tens of thousands of people dying here in the UK as a result of climate issues, and further afield even Canada, as close as it is to the Arctic circle, is counting its dead from a killer heatwave. There are so many challenges to overcome, but the most significant is that we’re all, to a large degree, on our own.

We must work together to avert this disaster!

Each and every council, every hospital, every university, every police force, fire brigade or ambulance service… we’re all trying to do our bit.But operating alone, we are not having the maximum possible impact, and the inefficiencies are huge.

A sustainability officer cannot be aware of and understand absolutely all of the possible technology solutions, nor be able to benchmark and balance environmental impact against cost or return on investment, so that finance officers can prioritise action plans. Even when solutions do appear, we then have to go through the whole procurement cycle. time-cpnsuming in the face of emergency that we’re facing.

The solutions are out there, and we need to share them

From energy management systems to water conservation and from pothole repair tech to blockchain validation of identity and qualifications, solutions are out there that every singly public body should be adopting immediately because they both save significant amounts of money and at the same time have a positive environmental impact.

Imagine if we can come together, as a sector and implement even just the measures that save money!

    Richard Hallewell, Director
    As well as his role for CCTPA, Richard also has senior leadership roles within several global technology associations. Since 2015 he has concentrated on advising central and local government about the potential impacts of tech solutions with a particular emphasis on Fintech, GreenTech & Procurement. He is a passionate believer that every £ saved for local government is a £ that can be spent delivering the critical services they provide and is particularly proud of having created the Banking and Finance Procurement Framework which can save up to 70% of payment processing costs. Richard is a proud single-parent of four and a mediocre, but keen, pool and chess player.
    Andrew Burns, Associate Director
    Andrew is a Past President of CIPFA having served as President in 2017/18. As Director of Finance and Resources for Staffordshire County Council (SCC) until December 2018, Andrew led the financial transformation programme that delivered £200m savings and significant service improvement in Staffordshire. He had strategic responsibility for Finance, IT, Digital, Property, Commercial and Customer Services and was Treasurer of the Staffordshire Pension Fund. Andy is former Chairman of the Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies (CCAB), the group representing the main UK accountancy bodies, which has a combined membership of over 380,000 professional accountants worldwide.
    Hazel Stenson, Project Manager - CCTPA
    Hazel's working life began in fine art and portrait painting. Her journey then took her via sales to working in the public sector, initially with the police, gaining qualifications in HR and as an assessor for the Police Recruitment Assessement centres. Before joining CPRAS and latterly CCTPA, Hazel balanced parenthood with Forest School teaching (a nature inspired approach to education and childcare). Hazel has also worked with her local authority to help improve the lives of people in her community, including running schemes such as a fresh food bank from her home. A keen campaigner for climate and social justice, Hazel is thrilled to now be bringing hi-tech solutions to the public sector – where they can really make a difference. Precious spare time is divided between a husband, two children, a dog, three hens and an organic allotment.
    Alaine Agadier, Marketing and Sales co-ordinator
    Alaine started out as a business English instructor before doing telemarketing and business development. His experience in sales and marketing has taken him across the globe. His passion for providing solutions where improvement is needed is something that he is proud of. Alaine is known for his enthusiasm and attention to detail with regard to portfolios, client relationships and company development. He aims to make some difference in every endeavour he takes. Alaine is also a proud song writer and audio producer. He has been publishing music in all major digital music stores for 15 years.
    Becky Hoyle, Marketing and Communications
    Becky is a Marketing and Communications professional with a background in agencies, in-house teams and as a consultant. She now oversees the work of the Marketing and social media teams within CPRAS. Becky has worked for years with, and within, the public sector as well as with commercial organisations and not-for-profits, and was part of the launch team for the charity-owned pay-weekly lender Fair for You in 2017. Her professional interests include fintech, ethical finance, crowdfunding and the psychology of marketing. Her personal interests should probably remain private, as they include life drawing, brewing and Border Morris dancing.
    Jeanetta Nelson, Procurement Manager
    Jeanetta Nelson is CCTPA’s Procurement Manager. She has a wealth of procurement experience, having previously held a variety of roles in both the public and private sector, including: central government; local government; the NHS; and BUPA. Jeanetta has a Law degree and is an MCIPS qualified professional with over 20 years’ experience in public sector procurement, including OJEU/FTS frameworks across a wide range of services. Jeanetta is the mother of an upcoming singer. In her spare time she loves to read and has also written a number of romantic novels – although as yet none have been published.
